More than 200 people volunteer their energy and expertise to the Margaret Fuller House every year. About a quarter of them provide regular guidance and support, while others offer critical support for events and other special occasions. Additionally, we rely on large groups of volunteers from corporations, universities (local and from other states), high schools, churches and businesses. Without our incredible volunteers, we could not welcome and support more than 4,000 constituents every year.
Volunteer today! We simply cannot keep our doors open without you. Give a few hours of your time every week, every month, or only for special events. Whatever you can give is welcome- and needed!

After School Tutors, Support Staff for Summer and Year-Round Children’s Programs: If you enjoy working with youth, and would like to be a mentor or volunteer with special projects or trips, we need you! Share your interests in the arts, sports, science or math with our kids. During the school year, our volunteers work in the afternoon, and during the summer, evenings between 6 and 8 pm.
Food Pantry: We rely on volunteers to help with all aspects of Pantry operations, including unloading, organizing, restocking, cleaning up, and distribution of food to our constituents. Our volunteers work Wednesday afternoons or evenings; Thursday afternoons; and Friday and Saturday mornings. Join us during the Thanksgiving holiday to give out hundreds of turkeys to folks in need!
Seniors: Help organize or participate in special senior trips, breakfasts, birthday parties and community events. Seniors usually meet in the mornings, though occasionally the MFNH organizes trips and special events on weekends or other times.
Technology Lab: Our volunteers teach evening, weekend or morning classes in basic computer literacy. We also need volunteers to help with maintenance, regular repair and updating our computer equipment and network.
Marketing and Fundraising: Put your good ideas to work by helping us with the marketing, branding and promotional strategies we need to keep MFNH alive and thriving. Use your interest in photography to document activities at the house, or your design skills to freshen up our brochures. And if you have experience in grant writing, we’d love to hear from you!
Board Committees: Participate in one of our Board Committees, which meet monthly, and cover the following areas: Programs, Finance, Facilities, Fundraising and Personnel. In the springtime, we also have a committee devoted to our annual fundraiser, the Sweet Soul Supper.
Large and Small Group Projects: Help with maintenance and repairs, gardening, painting, organizing and cleaning. We can tailor to your group’s interests and abilities. Groups can help for a day or “adopt the MFNH” and make longer term commitments.
